  • Jungle Juice

Watch locals walk tightropes from tree to tree with amazing agility to collect the island’s ‘jungle juice’, known as ‘toddy’. This refreshing drink is tapped from coconut and palm trees. If left to ferment it produces a strong and pleasant alcoholic drink that tastes like cider, and the later in the day it’s collected, the stronger it gets!

  • Galle Fort

Jutting out on a peninsula, Galle Fort was built in the late 1500s by the Portuguese, later fortified by the Dutch and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk along the ramparts for stunning coastal and sunset views. Explore the lighthouse, museums and clock tower, beautiful colonial buildings, pleasant restaurants, cafes and boutiques.

  • Ambalangoda Mask Village

The village of Ambalangoda is famous for its antiques, traditional carved masks and puppets, which are used throughout Sri Lanka for cultural performances, processions and ceremonies.

  • Temples

Visit nearby Kande Vihara temple to see beautiful frescos and paintings, as well as the world’s tallest sitting Buddha. A climb to the top of Pahuru mountain to Pahuru Kande temple rewards you with a bird’s eye panoramic view.
